What is a car club?

Car clubs are a method of car sharing, allowing members to experience the benefits of car ownership without the hassle and expense. They are already popular in Europe and America and, with Streetcar, they're now taking off in the UK too.

Will Streetcar save me money?

Yes, as long as you are not a very heavy car user. If you commute to work every day in a car, then Streetcar probably isn't for you. But, if you only use your car a few times a week, then Streetcar might save you a lot of money.

Can Streetcar free me from company car tax?

Yes. Your use of Streetcar doesn't get taxed in the same way that a company car would. You will only be taxed on the amount you actually spend on driving a Streetcar.

Can I pick a Streetcar up in one place and drop it off somewhere else?

Yes. While in general Streetcars must be returned to where they live by the end of your booking (just like you would your own car), one-way trips are available for an additional fee (£24.50 within a coverage zone). One-way trips must be arranged with 3 hours advance notice and are subject to availability. For more information click here.

Joining

Am I eligible to join Streetcar?

To join Streetcar you must be aged 21 or over and have held a valid driving licence for at least 12 months, or aged between 19 and 21 and have held a valid driving licence for at least 24 months. You must also have had no more than 1 accident in which an insurance claim was made in the last 3 years. We will also ask you about any endorsements and convictions that you may have. If you have any concerns about your eligibility then do not hesitate to call us on 0845 644 8475.

What if I do not have a UK licence?

No problem, when you fill in your details on the registration form and submit them we will send you an email asking you to send us a copy of your driving licence, photo proof of identification and two proofs of address (utility bills etc). When we receive these details in we will give you a call to complete your registration with you.

How simple is it to join?

Very! Just fill in a few details online and we will call you straight back. This call will confirm your licence details (a quick conference call with the DVLA), discuss any optional extras you might want (add a partner, insurance excess, that sort of thing), and take payment details (our annual membership is £59.50).

The call only takes a few minutes, and you can book a Streetcar straight away. We post your Streetcard out the same day, along with an email confirming all your membership details.

What will you do with my details?

Don't worry, we'll never pass on any of your details to a 3rd party.

Booking

How do I make a booking?

Over the internet, using this site, or by phone on 0845 644 8475.

How long before my trip can I book?

A booking takes about 60 seconds to reach the car and can start either on the hour or half-hour.

How far in advance of my trip can I make a booking?

As much as 6 months.

What if the first choice of car I want is usually booked?

We monitor bookings carefully to prevent this problem. If a particular car is in frequent demand, we'll add another in the same area as soon as the need becomes clear.

How do I extend a booking by SMS?

Just reply to your booking confirmation text with the word EXTEND followed by the number of hours you need (e.g. EXTEND 1.5 for an extra 1.5 hours). Click here for more details.

How and when do I cancel a booking?

You can cancel or change a booking up to 4 hours before the start of the booking, either online or over the phone. There is no charge for this. Less than 4 hours before the booking starts and during the booking, you will be charged for the full booking.

During my booking, is it legal to park my car in a Streetcar/Streetvan bay?

No.

If I return the car early, do I pay the full amount?

Yes. You cannot shorten a booking once it has started.

Streetcards

Can anyone else use my Streetcard?

The card is in your name and should only be used by you (unless you have added a partner on your account). Anyone who is not a Streetcar member is not insured, and as a result may be open to prosecution by the police for driving without insurance.

What are the benefits of adding a partner to my account?

Partner members get access to all the features of a normal Streetcar membership, and share a Streetcard and account with the primary member. All charges are managed by the primary account, and insurance option costs are halved for the partner member.

How do I add a partner to my account?

You can add a partner when you join, or at any time during your membership by speaking to the Member Services Team on 0845 644 8475.

How much does it cost to add a partner?

£49.50 per year. This is charged pro rata so if you add a partner after 6 months, for example, it only costs £24.75.

What do I do if I lose my Streetcard?

Contact us immediately on 0845 644 8475 so we can cancel your old card and issue you with a new card (£10 per card).

Billing

How will I be charged?

The cost of each booking will be debited from your payment card when your booking is made. Extra charges such as fuel over the free mileage allowance will be taken from your registered payment card 24 - 48 hours after your booking has ended. If you cancel a booking, the booking cost will be automatically refunded (subject to our 4 hour cancellation policy).
