Fleet & Price Change FAQs

Why are you changing your prices?

The great majority of Streetcar's current fleet will not be affected by price adjustments: the 24 hour rate on the small cars remains unchanged. The rate for medium sized Volkswagen Golfs remains unchanged, and the cost of being a member of Streetcar remains unchanged.

However, the cost of running cars has increased very significantly (the price of petrol has increased by 26% and insurance by 13% - sources: the AA, Office for National Statistics) so some other rates do need to increase to cover some of the increased cost.

When do the price changes take effect?

The new prices will apply to bookings made from Wednesday 16 December onwards and which start on or after 1 January 2010. The price changes will not affect any bookings made before 16 December.

Fleet changes

Why are you changing the number of small cars in your fleet?

We recognise that sometimes you only need a small car. To make our cheapest model of car available to more members we are increasing the number of Polos (or equivalent small car) in our fleet by a factor of 5 in the course of 2010.

Why are you introducing the BMW 1 Series and 3 Series?

Members have told us they want a greater variety of cars, and a luxury car for longer trips and special occasions.

When will they be added to the fleet?

The BMW 1 Series and 3 Series will be introduced to the fleet through 2010.

Where can I find out more information about the cars?

You can read our BMW user guide here, or read more on BMW's website about the 1 Series or 3 Series.

Why are you changing the Unlimited Free Fuel offer?

We would like to avoid too many cars being booked for long journeys because it reduces the availability of cars for members who would like to make short journeys. However, we recognise the Unlimited Free Fuel offer has been popular, so we are continuing it in a way which will minimise the impact on car availability for short trips.

How can I tell if my booking qualifies for the Unlimited Free Mileage offer?

You will be able to view at the time of booking and on your confirmation email if you have qualified for the unlimited mileage offer.

What times are peak?

Peak times are defined as weekends which include a public holiday, and weekends in July and August.

Inexperienced driver charge

Why are you introducing an inexperienced driver charge?

Inexperienced drivers are responsible for a disproportionate number of accidents. The Inexperienced driver charge simply reflects this higher cost.

Which young drivers are exempt?

Those with a proven history of good driving will be exempt from the young driver premium. Exemptions are available to:

  • Those who have had 20 bookings or more with Streetcar and have not caused any damage or had any further points added to their license
  • Those who can provide evidence of two years no claims history dated within a month of submission
